What a day!

Today I went to a traditional barbershop to have my hair cut. While I was waiting in line, an elderly gentleman struck up a conversation with me. "Hey, where are you from?" he asked me. "I'm from Justin. I have a house in the city," I answered. "I mean, where are you originally from?" he said, stressing the word "originally." "I am from China originally, and I've lived here since 2019. So where are you from? Where's your hometown? " "My hometown is Lowell, thirty miles away from Justin, but I've been in the area for almost 35 years, ever since I married my wife, Ann. What do you think about this country? It's a great country, huh? "Yeah, a great country and a fantastic country. This morning, my neighbor hung a new banner above his garage door: the banner says: Trump 2033! Please forgive me for being a Trump voter! To my knowledge, the American presidency is limited to two terms. Am I right?...

Reading thoughts: “Inside the Dirty, Dystopian World of AI Data

In southeast Memphis - KeShaun Pearson’s hometown, a latest industrial megaproject called “Colossus,” owned by Musk’s artificial-intelligence company xAI, is being used as a training ground for Grok. It can consume as much electricity over the course of a year as 200,000 American homes, and it was powered by natural gas equipped with enormous turbines. Currently, to meet the surging demand of generative AI, energy and tech companies are turning to reliable and stable fossil fuels over solar, wind, or nuclear. Swaths of Data centers are booming across the United States in states like Virginia, Arizona, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Texas. Compared with China, lack of energy is the biggest disadvantage of the United States, hungering for energy is the main driving force to push Constellation to restart their Unit One at Three Mile Island - the site of the worst nuclear disaster in American history. A guarantee to power Microsoft’s data centers over the next two decades enhanced its confi...

Reading notes

Just now, I finished reading today’s must-read article from The New Yorker, titled “He Helped Stop Iran from Getting the Bomb: The Spy Who Told All” by David D. Kirkpatrick. The article was published on March 30, 2026, and it was dated April 6, 2026. Unsurprisingly, David D. Kirkpatrick’s article portrayed a retired CIA agent Chalker who was embroiled in an embarrassing lawsuit with an investor named Elliott Broidy. Elliott Broidy is a major donor to President Donald J. Trump. In a comprehensive 53-page article, David Kirkpatrick explores the reasons behind Chalker’s decision to join the CIA. He delves into the lawsuit claiming that Qutar had paid Chalker to orchestrate Elliott Broidy and several others. Despite the loss of Chalker from the lawsuit, Kirkpatrick highlights his exceptional performance as a case officer in defecting Iranian scientists to the United States from Iran. Kirkpatrick, in a strange turn of events, appeared to be attempting to defend Chalker’s reputation....

Observation

Is the orange guy really about making America great again, or just making the rich greater? That has been one of my biggest misconceptions was about Americans. I used to believe that critical pedagogy could help ordinary people understand right from wrong and foster independent thought. However, I was mistaken. Education alone doesn’t guarantee deep thinking — people have to question and reflect for themselves. These days, it feels like society is becoming more like an OrwellianAnimal Farm — a place ruled by the survival of the fittest. Wealth seems to define morality, the poor are dismissed as worthless, victims are denied justice, and the powerful appear free to do whatever they want. Is this really the kind of world we want? The Epstein case has already showed us how blatantly those in power can insult our intelligence. And then there are people who’ll tell you that if you don’t support Trump, you’re somehow a traitor trying to undermine America. In 2023, I often...

A Few Thoughts on TikTok

Social media platforms are designed to make money, and their core algorithms are built to keep users hooked. So how can we use these apps without becoming part of their profit model? It’s incredibly easy to spend from 30 minutes to one hour scrolling on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube. In today’s world, our time and attention are valuable — a kind of visible wealth — and that’s precisely what these platforms are built to capture. I originally started uploading my spoken English practice videos on TikTok, hoping native speakers would correct my pronunciation. But they didn’t get much attention, probably because the algorithm mainly promotes content that has the potential to go viral. I also tried to find English learning videos on TikTok, but I mostly got entertainment clips. After watching a few, my feed was filled with similar content. The longer I stayed, the more it showed me, making it easy for me to lose track of time.

Today I found a good aggregator website called Goodtimesweb.org. [Good Times: Industrial Policy Under National Security Cover]( https://goodtimesweb.org/ )

Mom, where's freedom

Mom, you always told me, "Go to the United States — decent people everywhere, and freedom, like a cup of tea. " Mom, now I'm living in the U.S., Here, freedom, is a cup of tea: two bucks and a fee. ICE on the street corner, waiting for me. Mom, you used to tell me, "Go to the United States — the American dream is waiting, hurry up and hold the key. " Mom, now I'm living in the U.S. — fifty pounds on my knee, fifteen hours on my feet, four hours' sleep like a bee, then home past the corner, where ICE waits for me. Mom, you once told me, "Go to the United States for a key; there, every smile is high glee. " Now, I'm living in the U.S. — people cryin...

Oh, boy — at least we still have Facebook or TikTok

Once, in Texas, I had some small talk with a middle-aged Lyft driver, and he said he didn't have any medical insurance. I was surprised by that fact, as he seemed like a decent white man, so I asked him why. He answered that he was very healthy, so he didn't need to waste his money on medical care. At that time, his answer didn't seem very reasonable to me, because in the U.S. a lot of people go bankrupt because of the medical system, even if they have medical insurance. After Luigi Nicholas Mangione killed Brian Robert Thompson of UnitedHealth Group, I fully realized that the Texas driver was damn right! Even if you have medical insurance, they still have thousands upon thousands of reasons to refuse to pay your medical bills. Then, I looked up how many Texans don't have medical insurance: you wouldn't believe it — quite a lot of Texans have none at all. But guess what? We still have democracy, freedom, Face...

The Loneliness of Americans

Loneliness has a thousand faces; the loneliness of Americans and that of the Japanese are two typical ones.  Both Americans and the Japanese are highly independent people unwilling to disturb others. However, the loneliness of the Japanese is visible, while that of Americans is invisible. Making friends with the Japanese takes a long while, because the Japanese are introverted and hard to befriend; building a relationship and trust with them is a slow process. You must pay close attention to the details of befriending them.  It is relatively easy to make an American friend, thanks to the easygoing and outgoing character of Americans. Even so, Americans actually have a tiered system for their friends. So in most cases, there is no need to take their pleasantries seriously — mostly they are enthusiastically open-minded and cheerful, and it is quite common for them to forget what they said. Even if you regard something as a commitment,...

Do you really think Epstein's closest friend's presidency is better than Sleepy Joe's?

Do you really think Epstein's closest friend's presidency is better than Sleepy Joe's?  The orange guy said he wouldn't apologize for the skyrocketing cost of gasoline because Iran might soon have nuclear weapons. Do you actually agree with him?  He himself, his entire family, and his rich friends have already made billions upon billions of dollars — openly, immorally, shamelessly, and corruptly — by exploiting loopholes in the system and colluding with his notorious associates.  Corruption has existed in every administration, but you rarely see a corrupt government in such an unethical and unacceptable state.   He vowed to drain the swamp in Washington, D.C. Yet when you consider the Epstein scandal, he looks like the dirtiest creature the swamp has ever seen.  We should feel happy for poor people who chose such a corrupt, crooked liar, only to be squeezed ruthlessly by him.  ...

Addiction

Addiction can involve many things, not just drugs, alcohol, pornography and gambling.  Some people become addicted because of their pain, both physical and mental pain; they use drugs or alcohol to get temporary relief.  Some people become addicted out of curiosity, or because it was the popularity at the time.  Some people get addicted due to emptiness; they need something to fill that void.  Some people get addicted because they are lured by addictive products or systems. For instance, social media companies design very addictive mechanisms for people using their platforms; gambling companies design highly addictive mechanisms that keeps people losing money.  Basically, addiction can be very personal, but it can also be a very profitable business.

Patriotism and others

https://img.remit.ee/i/SzF4Ih8s6uom ...

Do not go gentle into that good night

Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright. Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes c...

As I Walked Out One Evening

--- share_link: https://share.note.sx/f4akhgy7#9PHgQVU4BH7XTLJ73SNBPA share_updated: 2026-10-05T21:07:28-05:00 --- ![]( https://i.ibb.co/9HvvMMPG/ace59942dc934e4abdbfa3c5e44101ce.jpg ) As I Walked Out One Evening I'll love you, dear, I'll love you Till China and Africa meet, And the river jumps over the mountain And the salmon sing in the street, I'll love you till the ocean Is folded and hung up to dry And the seven stars go squawking Like geese about the sky. The years shall run like rabbits, For in my arms I hold The Flower of the Ages, And the first love of the world.

Paper Boats by Rabindranath Tagore

![]( https://i.ibb.co/GbXKvpD/Screenshot-20261005-191749-Brave.png ) ![]( https://img.remit.ee/i/Qi2j1ABlR2dz ) Day by day I float my paper boats one by one down the running stream. In big black letters I write my name on them and the name of the village where I live. I hope that someone in some strange land will find them and know who I am. I load my little boats with shiuli flowers from our garden, and hope that these blooms of the dawn will be carried safely to land in the night. I launch my paper boats and look up into the sky and see the little clouds setting their white bulging sails. I know not what playmate of mine in the sky sends them down the air to race with my boats! When night comes I bury my face in my arms and dream that my paper boats float on and on under the midnight stars. The fairies of sleep are sailing in them, and the lading is their baskets full of dreams.

Funeral Blues

![]( https://img.remit.ee/i/6iAbKMDg5cJy ) Funeral Blues Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone, Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone, Silence the pianos and with muffled drum Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come. Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead, Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead. Put crepe bows round the white necks of public doves, Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves. He was my North, my South, my East and West. My working week and my Sunday rest, My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song; I thought that love would last forever; I was wrong. The stars are not wanted now: put out every one; Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun; Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood; For nothing now can ever come to any good...

Two English Poems

![]( https://img.remit.ee/i/GikbvNjct08U ) Two English Poems by Jorge Luis Borges To Beatriz Webster de Bullrich I. The useless dawn finds me in a deserted streetcorner; I have outlived the night. Nights are proud waves: darkblue topheavy waves laden with all hues of deep spoil, laden with things unlikely and desirable. Nights have a habit of mysterious gifts and refusals, of things half given away, half withheld, of joys with a dark hemisphere. Nights act that way, I tell you. The surge, that night, left me the customary shreds and odd ends: some hated friends to chat with, music for dreams, and the smoking of bitter ashes. The things my hungry heart has no use for. The big wave brought you. Words, any words, your laughter; and you so lazily and incessantl...

--- share_link: https://share.note.sx/a03ih7bm#E1avqhGOaMXxtdR64SNepA share_updated: 2026-10-05T02:54:08-05:00 --- ![]( https://img.remit.ee/i/QnDxoDeRfUXw ) ![]( https://img.remit.ee/i/1K6AAg85f1Q0 )

The Hollow Men

The Hollow Men The eyes are not here There are no eyes here In this valley of dying stars In this hollow valley This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms In this last of meeting places We grope together And avoid speech Gathered on this beach of the tumid river Sightless, unless The eyes reappear As the perpetual starMultifoliate rose Of death's twilight kingdomThe hope only Of empty men.

Silence

There is a silence where hath been no sound, There is a silence where no sound may be, In the cold grave—under the deep deep sea.

Rebounce

The Illusion of Decentralization

"First feed the face, and then talk right and wrong."  – Die Dreigroschenoper ...
